Just give me a dang drank!

You know what i CAN'T stand at a restaurant or food joint?
When they don't have the drink options clearly listed somewhere and so you ask "What do you have to drink." And the waiter/waitress replies "We have Coke products."

Ummm, that's means NOTHING to me! I haven't worked in fast food in 13 years, and even then i couldn't have named any other Coke product other than COKE. The only thing i know about "Coke Products" is that Dr. Pepper is not a Coke Product. And the only reason i know this because OU only had Mr. Pibb -- the poor man's Dr. Pepper. (RC is the poor man's Coke -- i, like most black folks, prefer RC Cola!).

Anywhoo.

Maybe i'm just ignorant and the only person in the world who doesn't have all the Coke products memorized. But is it seriously too hard to just freaking list the drink options.

Yesterday i had a stare down with the lady in the Subway Drive Thru. All of the drive thru window they have listed what my chip options are, my dressing options, cheese, dressings, veggies, etc. But no where did they have listed the drink options.

Samich Chick: What do you want to drink?
ReRe: What do you have?
Samich Chick: We have Coke products.
ReRe: Ok. What are they.

She then goes over to the drink spout -- cus SHE doesn't even have them memorized -- and reads them off to me.

ReRe: I'll take a Fruit Punch.
Samich Chick: We are out of that.

Diggity Dang!

What makes a Big League City?

You know what makes a city a Big League City? No, it's not an NBA team, it's not a river renamed after your state, it's not even tons of international travel.

It's a Grandy's. And you know whose a Big League City? Bethany, Oklahoma. I recently took a trip to Bethany and delighted myself in some Grandy's for lunch. Nothing better than greasy fried chicken, okra, mashed potatoes and a soft roll with butter and honey. Oh wait, i know what's better than that...a sweet little lady bringing me more rolls! And that's just what i got!

Oh how i miss Grandy's. Norman USED to have one, right next to Norman High School. I ate there almost every.freaking.day. Children's chicken nugget place with fries for $2.99 baby! Sadly it closed, i blame it on two things 1) Hard to make money when you are swarmed at lunch time with teens who either only order the $2.99 kids plate or nothing at all and 2) Hard to make money when that swarm of teens scares away your target audience: 90 year-olds.

What is it with Grandy's and old folks?! Every car in the Grandy's parking lot the other day was a Cadillac -- except mine of course. And i was the youngest by at least 50 years! (i almost got run over in the parking lot by a lady wearing cataract shades!)

Potluck Friday

It's been one heck of a week and i'm soooooooo glad it's Friday!!!

  1. I'm so spoiled my modern day technology and conveniences that this morning i through a fit when my spin brush had no batteries. And then i magically realized that i could still brush my teeth -- i'd just have to move my arm back and forth! So sad that i'm too lazy to brush my own dang teeth!
  2. I finally tuned in to some American Idol last night. I think the show jumped the shark a few seasons ago, but not much was on. All i have to say is this: Steven Tyler's face is like a sexy train wreck. It's ugly, but i can't stop starring at it and i wouldn't mind kissing it (if i wasn't kissing James of course!). It's weird. I don't think Steven Tyler is a hot at all ...but i kinda do? He goes into my nasty/dirty bad boy file with Kidd Rock (don't judge me)!
  3. There is apparently some lawsuit against Taco Bell because the meat is only 33% ground beef. You know what my response to this lawsuit is? DUH! Umm, if you thought for a second that Taco Bell was putting meat in that chalupa then you are a FOOL! Folks don't got to Taco Bell for ground beef. They go to Taco Bell because it's the only place open at 3 a.m. after a rough night at Opie's.
  4. I never thought i was a Rihanna fan, but apparently i must be because i've been loving her stuff lately. So, what's ReRe jamming this week? "Who's that Chick" by RiRi ft. David Guetta

Pet Peeves

don't you dare think the title of this post has ANYTHING to do with hormones. I've had these pet peeves for way longer than my 32 weeks of pregnancy, it just so happens that i'm letting them out now. So don't go assuming!

2 pet peeves that have been driving me nuts this week:

  1. folks who slow down when they see a cop has someone pulled over: Ummm, i don't understand this. He ALREADY has someone, he ain't looking at you. When i see a cop has already caught his fish, i take it as my opportunity to raise up my Forty and wave at him. Ok, not really, but you can AT LEAST go the freaking speed limit. But no, 99 percent of folks creep by, like he's gonna tell the person he already caught "Ok, nevermind your speeding, i'm gonna go after that guy over there for, umm, just because." NO people! just drive like normal -- or even a little faster than normal -- because Mr. PoPo is occupado.
  2. folks who take forever in the drive-thru: What the heck are these people ordering?! This ain't Golden Corral, Cracker Barrel or some other restaurant. This is freaking Mickey D's. There should be no need to peruse the menu -- you've been here enough times and seen enough commercial to know what the clown serves. But no, you are just looking and looking, talking and talking. Do me a favor, ask little Billy if he wants a cheeseburger happy meal or "chicken" nuggets BEFORE you leave the house. And you know Billy is not gonna eat it anyway, the fries are gonna just end up in the backseat next to the gold fish crackers and gum. And i don't know what's worse, the person who takes forever to order and then you see all they got was a coke -- what the heck were you talking about, health care reform, BP? -- or the person who gets like 8 bags and 15 drinks handed out the window AND still has to pull up for the rest of their order. Dang, Wally World is up the street, go buy some real food and cook it.

Ok, i'm done! Happy Hump Day!

Potluck Friday

Nothing could excite me more than a Friday -- well, a double rainbow could, but that's about it!

  1. Guess who i'm NOT calling back -- ever. The U.S. Census Bureau. They've been stalking me for about a month. One evening i get a call from a dude who thinks i'm dumb and thinks that his opening statement of "You've been selected to do a 20-minute Census Survey!" was going to actually make me think that him being on the other line was a good thing. Of course i told him i was busy and to call back the next night at 6:30. He listened like a good boy scout, except i didn't answer. And i haven't answered since that first night, but the Census people still call me daily (twice now). I've done my duty, i turned in the form, that's all your getting from me. Growing up i was trained not to answer "out of area" calls or any other call that could be from a bill collector, so the Census folks are gonna have to get a lot more clever if they think they are getting me to pick up the phone.
  2. When i worked at Burger King back in the day, i didn't claim to know all there was about whoppers, but like everything in your life, you fake it till you make it. Apparently someone needs to pass that along to the waiter we had last night at Pad Thai on campus corner. One of the dishes James was contemplating stated it had "chili" in it. James, being a vegetarian, wanted to make sure exactly what that meant (did that mean a bang of noodles covered in Hormel chili)? But Tweedle Dumb could not answer that. "Umm, meat? Ummm, i don't know. It's just regular chilli. Ummm, ummmm." Finally he pulled over another guy (the same metro-sexual whose underwear were hanging out all night), who explained that it wasn't actually chili, but chili peppers.
James: Oh, i guess it should have said chillis -- with an s.
Metro-sexual: Yeah, but the same guy who wrote the menu is the same guy who wrote the sign on the door that says "Now Taking Application."
    Point made!
  3. Speaking of Burger King -- It's gross! I was craving a whopper the other day (i don't think i've had one since i worked there 13 years ago). I opt for a whopper junior meal. Of course, like any normal person, the first thing i do as i pull out the drive-thru is reach into the bag to grab a fry. Mistake! I had somehow forgotten how gross BK fries were. I don't understand that with all our technology, why can't BK figure out what Mickey D's is doing and make their fries better. Yeah, yeah, Mickey D's is probably frying their fries in beef fat, cat hair and meth, but i don't care, they are good -- and the King needs to get on the ball. (and don't even get me started on how undelicious that whopper jr. was).
  4. The time has come. I'm officially old. So old that this weekend i will be at my 10-year high school reunion. I'm probably the only dork excited about going to their reunion. Probably because i have a lot of successes such as:
--Only one baby daddy, and i married him (BEFORE we made babies).
--i'm only a little plumper from high school -- and that's just b/c i'm almost 7 months pregnant.
Ok, i guess those are the only successes that count at reunions! But seriously, i really am excited about seeing folks in real life vs. on Facebook. What i'm not excited about is how much i paid to go to this dang reunion. But oh well.
  5. What's Re jamming this week? Well, i've rekindled my love for Eminem. I love the song "I love way you lie" ft. Rihanna. (of course Em throws a fit when his stuff is put on youtube, so you'll have to go to the link.

Potluck Friday

  1. My favorite new way to spend my lunch hour is to go to the book store with my girl J-Loop and read the latest Twilight Book: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (don't judge, Cristina stop laughing and keep reading). I honestly look forward to this adventure every day. Yesterday was kind of a disappointment because 1) The books that we carefully hid in the history sections -- mine behind a Tom Brokaw book and J-Loop's behind a Colin Powell book (just in case the store sold out. we figured no teens would look in the history section)-- were GONE! Apparently the book store has people who work there who make sure only the books that belong on a particular shelf are there. We panicked, but only for a little bit because luckily there were still copies on display. But the disappointment returned when 2) chatty kathy decided to sit in the sofa chair across from us and talk to her husband about how "i don't want to take the grandkids to Toy Story 3. It's that computer generated stuff and well, i just don't like that." I felt my blood start to boil. Seriously? Does she not see me reading? Could she not have had this conversation while perusing the menopause books section? I grunted. Nothing. I even pretended to take a call from James and not so quietly said: "Baby, i'll have to call you back. I'm in the bookstore and it would be rude for me to sit across someone who is reading and talk on the phone." Still Nothing. She finally ended her call -- i think she could feel my eyes burning holes in her. She never looked up -- but i know she dreamed about me last night.
  2. What's up with Sonic's commercials trying to bag on other fast-food places for not having the things that Sonic has? I mean, really, is it necessary to have a commercial saying "We have the footlong quarter pound coney, how bout you?" and then flashing over to Mickey D's, BK and Wendy's who don't have it. But why would any of those places have a foot long quarter pound coney anyway?! I'm just now to the point where i can eat burger from Mickey D's without being scared -- i'm not gonna eat a hot dog! How would Sonic like it if Red Lobster did a commercial bragging to Sonic: "We have cheddar bay biscuits and crab, how bout you?!" I also "love" sonic's commercial trying to bag on the Wendy's frosty. All it did was make me crave a frosty! Yeah, Sonic has real ice cream -- but you can get that anywhere. but Wendy's has the FROSTY! (No, i don't work for Wendy's, Red Lobster or any of the other places. And yes, i do love me some Sonic -- i just call it like i see it!)
  3. Big Brother is back!!! This show just makes my summer. I'm pretty sure it makes baby Jesus cry because it's really humans at their worst -- and i love every second of it. The only thing I would change would be how often it comes on (Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday). I have a research paper to finish and a baby to prepare for -- it breaks my heart that those two things will have to take a backseat to Big Brother.
  4. Am i the only one who was kind of excited about the news that there were Russian Spies here! It just reminded me of that movie with John Travolta and the guy who looks like the guy from Perfect Strangers but isn't that guy. i have no idea what the movie is called (or if that's really John Travolta in it), but i loved it.
  5. What am i jamming this week? Drake's "Find your love." I love Drake!

Sometimes Jack should stay in the box

What do Okies love more than guns and bibles? Apparently It's Jack in the Box. A Jack in the Box recently opened in Norman, right down the street from my house. It's been chaos for nearly 2 weeks. The drive-thru is regularly wrapped around the building -- sometimes spilling into traffic. It got so bad the other day that Jack had a cop directing drive-thru traffic.

The parking lot is jammed full -- you'd think Michael Jackson had come back from the dead.

So yesterday i decided to see what all the fuss was about. My mama loved her some Jack in the Box. Anytime i took trip to Texas she'd always make my roomies and me bring her back 10 tacos. She'd freeze them and eat them at her convenience. I never tried one of the tacos because something just didn't feel right about buying some food, driving it 3 hours to my house, freezing it and then eating it. But that's just me.

Anywhoo. When i pulled into Jack, it was busy, but nothing compared to what it's been. I used this nifty little kiosk thing to order my food. Basically i did all the work but cook my food. I decided to get a couple of things to try -- don't judge, i'm pregnant.

I was amazed that the tacos were 2 for 99 cents. So i got two tacos, some jalapeno cheddar bites and some cheesy-bacon wedges. I waited for a good 15 minutes for my food -- i did meet a nice lady in line who told me about a good day care.

When they finally called #990 i nearly started drooling just thinking about how good my food was gonna be as i ate and watched some One Life to Live.

I drove home -- too fast i'm sure.

The first thing i sank my teeth in to was a taco. At first i was a little disturbed when i saw how flat and greasy it looked. But i took a bite anyway. I should have went with my first instinct.

YUCK. Seriously?

I took two more bites, thinking that maybe it would get better. It didn't. Opted to leave the 2nd taco uneaten.

My next move was a jalapeno popper. The first one was just filled with cheese -- no jalapeno. The next 3 were OK -- but no Sonic Ched 'R' Pepper.

I thought i'd saved the best for last. How can you mess up potato wedges with cheese and bacon bits and sour cream? I don't know how -- but clearly Jack does. They were no good. Kind of cold, kind of mushy. No seasonings and topped with fake bacon bits.

I know Jack does burgers, and i'm praying he does them better than the tacos and other crap i tried.

For you Jack lovers, please PLEASE tell me the appeal.
