Here's a recap of recent of some convos heard around casa de ReRe Ramblings:
ReRe: Are you going to come move your plate from the table? This ain't the Waffle House.
James: No, this is the Awful House...BWAHAHAHAH!
James: Are you interesed in seeing that movie Rock of Ages?
ReRe: No.
James: Because it's before your time?
ReRe: No, it's because i'm black!

Potluck Friday

- Do you know what today is? Nope, it’s not just Friday. Nope, it’s not just Potluck Friday. It’s the first day of Summer Fridays!!!! Summer Fridays means that my office closes at 3 p.m. every Friday until Labor Day! Jealous?! You should be! What What! But this also means that I have less time to do what I need to get done, so it will be a busy day…but oh so worth it to get off early!
- So I went and saw Bridesmaids this week (if you are friends with me on Facebook, you know that I thought it was good--- some other(s) didn’t!). I think my favorite part of the whole movie was the cameo by Wilson Phillips. You can’t tell me that you don’t automatically sing aloud when you hear “Hold On”! And if you don’t sing out lout you are 1) lying or 2) not human. I think Wilson Phillips should be required to do a cameo in every movie!
- Mornings out casa de ReRe-Ramblings are busy, but fun these days with Mr. Rivvy Riv in the house. They are so fun that James never wants them to change. I over heard him telling River this yesterday morning: River, when you’re 15, I still want you to come in our room in the mornings, lay across the bed while having your bottle and watch us get dress. Ummm, NOT gonna happen! (unless we move to Arkansas).
- I just want to share that as i write this, i'm jamming to Hold On!!! I just couldn't help it! here it comes..wait for it it....Some day somebody's gonna make you wanna turn around and say goodbye....
That is the JAM! but as i listen to the words, i've realized that it's a really "suck it up and stop being sad you big baby" message. Frasier Crane would not approve! - Other that Wilson Phillips, you know what else i'm jamming this week? A song with some of my favorite folks: "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull ft. Neyo (yeah!), Afrojack and Nayer. I actually shuck my booty to this song this morning in Zumba. Love it!

Potluck Friday

TGIF!!!
- Apparently Hollywood is tapped out of ideas for movies, because i've seen remakes that honestly, don't need to be done. I knew something was up when i saw the preview for The Roommate. My first reaction was "Ummm, isn't that Single White Female?!" But i gave Hollywood a pass. But i can't give them a pass on the two previews i saw last night: Red Riding Hood and Beastly. Ummm, taking "Little" out of the title is not going to make folks think this is NOT Little Red Riding Hood. And i don't have enough time to explain why i think Beastly is just WRONG. All i will say is the chick from Terminator already did a remake. Once CBS does it, there's no need for more.
- I will admit that last night when Justin Beiber was shot and killed i wept a little. What? You didn't hear. Yeah, the Bieb's character on CSI was killed last night. Tear. I love the Biebs. I'm a Belieber!
- Is it sad that the other day when River had what i can only describe as something that should be illegal in his diaper, i laid him down on the bathroom floor (yes, it was that messy that he needed to be on tile) and ran for my camera instead of cleaning supplies, so i could send pics to James?! It's like River only does blowouts for me (blow-out: a bowel-filled diaper that has an amount that is higher than that which the diaper can hold, resulting in a mess that often requires clothes, sheets and other items to be washed). Some how James always misses these. So i thought it was only fair that he get some pics!
- What's ReRe jamming this week? It's Chris Brown's "Yeah 3x." I can't help but to shake it when i hear this song.

Breakin' ain't easy
The other day i heard the most shocking thing while i was listening to conservative radio (yes, i tune in to conservative radio quite often. as an independent i find it important to hear both sides -- and as a human being i find it important to get a giggle every once in a while and both parties do a good job doing that, but i digress).I heard one of the callers make a reference to one of my favorite movies: Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. This 1984 classic never gets old. And lately I've heard a lot of references to it. The most recent was this morning in a song by Taio Cruz.
This goes to show that no matter your age, political affiliation, musical tastes, we all have one thing in common: We know good cinema when we see it.

And there's no better way to start your Monday than watching the best dance/movie scene EVER!

From the mouth of James
Wise things my hubby says:
ReRe: You need to start taking more pics of me and River. i have tons of pics of you and him, but not many of me and and him.
James: You need to start wearing clothes and i will take more pictures of you and the kid.
He has a good point. I'm sure River does not want a scrapbook of pics of him and his mommy, where i'm rocking out nothing but nappy hair, pajama pants and a nursing bra.
Weird things my hubby says:
Christmas Eve morning, James, River and I all snuggled in bed. It was a picture perfect moment as James and i held hands.
And then my hubby said the weirdest thing:
James: Is it strange that i'm imagining that scene from Ernest Saves Christmas were the old Santa is transferring his powers to the new Santa? I'm imagining that you are the new Santa and my hands are transferring powers to your hand.
Umm, ok???? Way to make the moment, um, weird.

Step Up 3D -- The REview

Have you ever been walking through Wally World and you thought to yourself: Someone should film me shopping and make it 3D?
You know you aren't doing anything worthy of 3D -- like throwing cans of green beans at the screen or pushing the cart really hard -- but heck, it would still be fun!
Well, this is exactly what had to be going through the minds of the folks who made Step Up 3D. Remember when i laughed hysterically at this film, promising that i would NEVER see it. Well, i went back on a self-promise because my girl Kerra likes bad movies and for her 28th b-day, i took her to see this turd (yes, i'm a good friend).
There are no words for how bad, yet good this movie was. Bad -- because, well, it's a 3D dance movie with no famous folks, need i say more. And good -- because, well, it's a 3D dance movie with no famous folks.
I laughed hysterically throughout the entire thing, but i don't think it was meant to be a comedy. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE me some dance movies. Nothing gets better than Breakin' 2: the Electric Boogaloo. But Step Up 3D had no dancing on the ceiling, high-yella brothas with jeri curls or cool 80s clothes.
But Setp Up 3D did have some "good" stuff:

But Setp Up 3D did have some "good" stuff:
- Let's say you are an 18 year-old dude and in the bathroom doing your business at the urinal. The next thing you know a group of dudes walk in with not-so-nice looks on their faces. Do you think 1) these dudes are gonna make a prison video with me 2) these dudes are gonna beat me to death or 3) these guys wanna have a dance off with me.
if you picked #3, then you've either seen Step Up 3D or you had a really weird childhood. The bathroom dance scene made me squeamish. All i kept thinking was, don't put your hands on that! yuck! - I also laughed hysterically at the Fred Astairesque dance scene between the curly headed guy (who up until half way through i thought was a girl -- his hair is FAB!) and that little cute girl from the Missy Eliot video. They randomly start dancing in the street in the street with trash can lids, running through cabs, stealing bystander's hats, etc. I busted a gut.
- Oh, and i can't leave out the one 3D "worthy" scene where hot guy and his love interest stand on top of an air conditioning unit with their Icee drinks. they slurp through their straws, place it over the AC unit and...OMG! icee bubbles look like they are going to land on me! What?! Seriously? did i just pay $13 to watch that?
I did pick up one good thing from the movie: BFABB. That means Born From a Boom Box.

Men are just nasty
Yesterday James got a taste of what ladies have to go through anytime we must go to the bathroom: long lines.
When we got out of the movies (We saw Inception. It was good, but not AMAZING the way folks are making it out to be) the line to the men's room was crazy long. I've never seen so many dudes lined up to potty. Amazingly i didn't have to go -- probably b/c i went twice before the movie and probably 20 times earlier that day. Anywhoo, I posted up against a wall b/c i knew it was gonna be a while.
To my shock, the line moved really fast. Before I knew it James was no longer outside the bathroom and had moved his way in. I attributed the fast line to the fact that men don't have as much work to do as women when it comes to going to the bathroom (they can just whip it out and go). But apparently the line and whole experience moved fast for another reason, as noted by my hubby:
James: That line was long. I figured i'd be waiting forever to wash my hands, but amazingly the line was only for the urinals -- no line at all to wash your hands!
GROOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Potluck Friday

- My favorite new way to spend my lunch hour is to go to the book store with my girl J-Loop and read the latest Twilight Book: The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (don't judge, Cristina stop laughing and keep reading). I honestly look forward to this adventure every day. Yesterday was kind of a disappointment because 1) The books that we carefully hid in the history sections -- mine behind a Tom Brokaw book and J-Loop's behind a Colin Powell book (just in case the store sold out. we figured no teens would look in the history section)-- were GONE! Apparently the book store has people who work there who make sure only the books that belong on a particular shelf are there. We panicked, but only for a little bit because luckily there were still copies on display. But the disappointment returned when 2) chatty kathy decided to sit in the sofa chair across from us and talk to her husband about how "i don't want to take the grandkids to Toy Story 3. It's that computer generated stuff and well, i just don't like that." I felt my blood start to boil. Seriously? Does she not see me reading? Could she not have had this conversation while perusing the menopause books section? I grunted. Nothing. I even pretended to take a call from James and not so quietly said: "Baby, i'll have to call you back. I'm in the bookstore and it would be rude for me to sit across someone who is reading and talk on the phone." Still Nothing. She finally ended her call -- i think she could feel my eyes burning holes in her. She never looked up -- but i know she dreamed about me last night.
- What's up with Sonic's commercials trying to bag on other fast-food places for not having the things that Sonic has? I mean, really, is it necessary to have a commercial saying "We have the footlong quarter pound coney, how bout you?" and then flashing over to Mickey D's, BK and Wendy's who don't have it. But why would any of those places have a foot long quarter pound coney anyway?! I'm just now to the point where i can eat burger from Mickey D's without being scared -- i'm not gonna eat a hot dog! How would Sonic like it if Red Lobster did a commercial bragging to Sonic: "We have cheddar bay biscuits and crab, how bout you?!" I also "love" sonic's commercial trying to bag on the Wendy's frosty. All it did was make me crave a frosty! Yeah, Sonic has real ice cream -- but you can get that anywhere. but Wendy's has the FROSTY! (No, i don't work for Wendy's, Red Lobster or any of the other places. And yes, i do love me some Sonic -- i just call it like i see it!)
- Big Brother is back!!! This show just makes my summer. I'm pretty sure it makes baby Jesus cry because it's really humans at their worst -- and i love every second of it. The only thing I would change would be how often it comes on (Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday). I have a research paper to finish and a baby to prepare for -- it breaks my heart that those two things will have to take a backseat to Big Brother.
- Am i the only one who was kind of excited about the news that there were Russian Spies here! It just reminded me of that movie with John Travolta and the guy who looks like the guy from Perfect Strangers but isn't that guy. i have no idea what the movie is called (or if that's really John Travolta in it), but i loved it.
- What am i jamming this week? Drake's "Find your love." I love Drake!

Potluck Friday

I'm always happy when it's Friday, but happy does not describe how i feel about it today. Oh what a week!!!
- Yes, that was me sitting in the theater opening day of Eclipse. Don't be jealous that my girl J-Loop won free tickets on the radio! It was AMAZING. Yeah, yeah. I know all the Twi-nerds are saying it's the best so far yada yada. But it really is. And it's not just a good Twilight movie, it's a good movie. I was impressed. I hope they keep this same director (this franchise changes directors more than Beyonce changes members of Destiny's Child). Of course, i still have some complaints:
- Why oh why can't they just dye Rosalie's eyebrows? She looks like Madonna with that tacky blonde hair and big brown eye brows. Better yet, why can't they just let Rosalie have her naturally dark hair? Yeah, it's not in the book, but it's not also in the book that she's rocking out old-school 3 inch black eyebrows either.
- Why does Jasper all of a sudden have a southern accent? Where the heck did that come from?
- Jacob needs to be shirtless more. That's why i'm here people, to look at this half-naked 17 year-old shape shifting wolf. Work with me!
- The more i watch, the more i'm convinced that Edward is the over-protective, hovering boyfriend that we would all want our daughters to stay away from. He reminds me of Fred Savage's character in the Lifetime movie, No one Would tell (where he kills DJ from Full House. sorry if i just ruined that for you).
- While waiting for Eclipse to start, i saw the funniest trailer. It was for Step Up...wait for it... wait for it....3D. NO, I AM NOT KIDDING. Someone spent their daddy's hard -earned money to pay to make a tacky no-star filled 3D dancing movie. Haven't we seen enough of this with: Step Up 1, Step Up 2, Save the Last Dance, Honey, (i could go on). I'm all about movies where white girls prove they can shake it (heck, i have tons of friends who could star in these movies) but do we really need another one, and does it need to be in 3 FREAKING D?!
- What ever happened to Bob the Builder? While scrolling through the toy aisle at Tar-jay the other day ( i like to prepare myself for the stuff i'm gonna have to buy River one day) i noticed that Bob the Builder was no where to be found. My best friend (aka Brown Girl or "Mexican") pointed out that Dora's friend Manny is all the rage now "and with the help of affirmative action, has replaced Bob the Builder." I am happy to report that i did find an array of black Barbie's that actually were my shade! Back in the day all the black Barbie's are what my momma would call "high-yellow." Examples of high yellow are my son, Halle Berry, my momma, one of my brothers. Basically it's house negroes. But Matel finally realized that the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice.
- I'm officially 6 months pregnant today!!! 3 more months and 18 more years to go!
- What is Re jamming this week? My boy Justin Bieber!!!! (don't hate, or judge). It's Bieber's "Somebody to Love."

I just had to get this off my chest -- and hopefully off of Facebook

I will admit that my Facebook addiction has increased ever since i got my smartphone. Once upon a time is shunned smartphone users. "Why do you need internet on your phone?" I'd ask. (I used to wonder why folks needed a camera on their phone as well). But i'm a changed woman. I love that i can post my snarky updates at any time of day, no matter where i am.
Take today for example; James and I both have jury duty. A month ago i would have dreaded the boredom, but not anymore -- I will have my smartphone to keep me company as i post about my fellow jurors all day long (knocking on wood that my phone is not prohibited while i'm waiting).
Back to my addiction.
One thing that i have noticed since i've become a deeper lover of Facebook, is that i get edgy about some of the other updates i see. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but i think updates should be funny, snarky, meaningful, original etc. And THESE do not meet those criteria:
- Bible verses: I love me some God, but what's up with all the Bible verses? 1) it's not original to quote a book as old as the Bible and 2) Is it necessary to do this EVERY DAY???? Even Jesus is like "enough already! whatcha eating for lunch?"
- Farmville and other nonsense: Don't you love the folks who have never once posted a status other than "____just bred a baby bird" or "_____has a baby bear who is lost" and my fave: "_____zebra just escaped the zoo, Oh My!" Really? Really? You're telling me that you joined Facebook so you could breed unicorns and grow food you'll never eat?
- Song lyrics and Movie quotes: I liken this to the Bible verses -- not original to quote Shrek and Brooks & Dunn. I do think there is a loophole to this. If you're gonna quote a lyric or movie, tie it in to something real. For example, if i felt an urge to quote Naughty by Nature, i'd put something like "Today James is down with O.P.P. -- And i'm excited" or something like that.
- Updates only you and maybe 1 out of 670 of your friends get: You know how it was rude to have inside jokes when you were in elementary school? Well, nothing has changed. It's even ruder on Facebook. Imagine nothing but a wall of "La Girafee -- Hoy!" "How does it feel? How was your trip?" "BGWBand3M" and other things that only my close friends and hubby understand (and would crack up at)? Exactly, so stop it.
I've said this last one before, but it can't be said enough: - Ghetto updates: No one wants to read about your baby mama drama, whose b-u-t-t you kicked this weekend, how you are fighting with your mother-in-law, etc. Well, maybe people do wanna know, but all of them are sitting in Jerry Springer's audience.

Potluck Friday

Happy Friday!
- If i could go back in time, i'd give Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar for his role in What's Eating Gilbert Grape? I watched that movie this morning and it just reminded me of how dang good Leo was in the role. I'm sure you are wondering how it's not even 9 a.m. and i've had time to watch a movie. Well, these days i don't sleep well (thanks Pumpkin Seed) so i watch random movies, cartoons, the Joy Behar show (that woman is crazy and her accent is crazier) and lots of male enhancement commercials. I don't know why i can't sleep. I'm not uncomfortable (yet) but i just seem to not be able to sleep past 3 .m. Oh well, i guess my body is preparing me for October.
- Is it rude that when i can't sleep i sometimes -- by sometimes i mean often -- wake up James and ask him questions like: "What are you dreaming about?" "What are you doing?" "When are you gonna wake up? and "Do you want to get up and play?" He thinks i'm a lunatic, but i think i'm doing him a favor by trying to prepare him for the role of fatherhood. I told him to pretend like i'm a crying baby.
- I am convinced that Kelly from the Real Housewives of New York City is the CRAZIEST person in the WORLD. Yes, i said world. It pains me to watch her. Bravo! would never put a mentally ill person on the show and let her fight with the other women, so...oh wait, yes they would: KELLY!
- James and I have both been called for jury duty on the same day. At least i won't be sitting up there alone, but jury duty sounds like no fun -- unless Pauly Shore is gonna be there.
- What am i jamming this week? "OMG" by Mr. Usher Raymond. Me loves this song, it has Black Eyed Peas feel to it (probably because it features Will.I.Am):

Potluck Friday

Yay! It's Friday. TGIfreakingF!
- James and i have been taking turns driving his new ride so he doesn't put too many miles on it when he goes to treat patients out of town. Today he's working closer to home, so he got to drive his new baby to work, and i got reunite with baby. Half way to work i look down to see that i'm WAYYY past 'E.' Really? Really? I didn't have time to stop and get gas, so now i'm praying that i have enough to make it home today. If i don't, you can bet Mr. James is never gonna hear the end of it.
- Lil Bro is like a ghost in the night. He stops in every few weeks to go through my fridge, play on the internet and mow the yard (for money of course). He didn't even realize James and I were in Cancun for a week -- he missed his chance of having a wild party at my house. Believe it or not i miss seeing his face. I finally got to see him this week. And he got to see me -- apparently he saw way more of me than i knew existed:
ReRe: So, do you think i'm starting to look a little pregnant, or am i just looking fatter?
Lil Bro: Oh, you definitely look pregnant! I can see it in your thighs, they are wider. You wrists are thicker, your arms are bigger. A little in your cheeks and in the back.
By "in the back" i'm sure he was referring to my a$$. I'm sure he would have continued with his list of what's blown up on ReRe in the last 16 weeks, but i stopped him.
ReRe: Well, James said that i really don't look any different.
Lil Bro: James is lying to you.
And you know what, I believe Lil Bro! - We finally watched The Blind Side. Finally, a good movie! After all the turds we've rented from the redbox lately, it was nice to get something good. I think i'm the only person in the world who didn't know the movie was based on a true story! And i love that Sandra adopted a tiny lil blind side! (yeah, i said it).
- Only pregnancy can give you the complexion of a teenage boy and the boobs of Dolly Parton. Seriously. I'm so freaking hot...from the neck down...and belly button up!
- What's ReRe jamming this week? I'm loving the song "Young Forever" by Jay-Z and Mr. Hudson.

Movies a la ReRe

Have you seen the previews for the new movie Death at a Funeral? Well, it's actually not a "new" movie, it's the remake of a 2007 British film that's hilarious. I'm usually not a fan of British films. Ok, i'm gonna admit it. I do have some prejudices (shock!) and one of those is British accents. I don't know what it is about them, but they bug me -- with the exception of Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsay, but that's just because i have old man crushes on the.
Anywhoo, Death at a Funeral is really funny and i'm excited to see the remake because it's the black version. Black version? Yeah, you know, that's when a director takes a movie and remakes it with a black cast and black comedy. Not the kind of black comedy that's taboo satire, but the black comedy that, as James describes, includes an "old black lady with a big ol booty saying crazy stuff."
James and i have decided that we are going to start a production company where we take classic movies and make black version of them.
Here are a few of our early ideas:
- Mary Poppins: It will be called Shanaynay Jones and will star Monique and that one little bad kid from Role Models. Instead of a spoon full of sugar, it will be a spoon full of red drink makes the medicine go down. And the dance routines will all be crunking and Usher will have Dick Van Dyke's role.
- Gone with the Wind: It will be called Damn It's Windy and will be the tale of a loud bossy lady who owns a salon who is having a turbulent relationship with her baby daddy.
- Birds: It will be called Chicken Wangs and will about a group of birds that tries to attack a family at a barbecue, only to find they are the ones being hunted.

Finally, something good from Canada

I did something i'm kind of embarrassed to admit: I bought the Justin Bieber CD. In my defense it was only $8 at Wally World. I couldn't pass that deal up.
I'm so embarrassed that my 28 year-old self is in love with a 15 year-old kid from Canada who sounds like Mickey Mouse. Judge me not. If Justin is good enough for Ludacris, he's good enough for me.
Like i've said before, i'm not a CD buyer. I really really have to like a song to buy the CD (one day i'll get hip enough to get one of those gadgets where i can download my music too -- i'll work on that after i quit using a VCR to tape my stories). Justin is not the only inappropriate crush i've had over the years.
Here are some other crushes that i've had that you may find surprising:
- Kidd Rock: yeah, he looks like he might smell and be sticky if you touched him. But there's just something about him that i like.
- The blue Avatar guy: i think the actor is way hotter when he's all blue with a tail. Am i the only one who fanned myself during the Avatar love scene? (i know i'm not).
- Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory: knowledge is sexy, and ironically some of James' co-workers call him Sheldon.
- K-Fed: Yeah, i said it. I think he's cute. And other people would admit it too if he wasn't, well, K-Fed.
- Anderson Cooper: He's the hottest journalist in the world. Sadly i hear that i'm not his type -- figures!
