Potluck Friday

Happy Friday!!!

  1. Yowza, it's been a LOOONGGG time since i've done a Potluck Friday. I'd like to blame River, but i can't. Truth is, it's me! I'm just so dang lazy/tired these days. But i feel refreshed this morning -- even after a 12 hour work day yesterday! So here ya go!

  2. Is it just me, or am i the only who thinks Amy Winehouse died a long time ago and came back as Lady GaGa? I don't know much about either one of "them" so i could be wrong. But did anyone ever see them in the same room at the same time? I'm just saying this is a possibility. If the folks who work at the Daily Planet never figured out that Clark Kent was never around when Superman was, then it's possible that this has also gone unnoticed. Maybe Amy GaGa got tired of playing both roles. Something to think about!

  3. It's Tax Free Weekend here in the great Sooner State. In theory this weekend is supposed to help folks save money while getting ready for Back to School (and stop them from all going to Texas and spending their money there), but in reality it makes absolutely no sense. School Supplies aren't even tax free...yet you can get a wedding dress tax free?! I mean, that's a good deal if you are a bride-to-be, but that does nothing for 1st Grade Billy who has to buy 4 boxes of markers, 3 notebooks, pens, pencil, and 19 boxes of kleenex. Well, i guess it's good for Billy if he's into drag and wants to be a show stopper in an Alfred Angelo wedding dress. You go boy!

  4. New in the world of River: crawling (he prefers to do the Mowgli crawl from the Jungle Book), eating out of the dog bowls, getting on his belly so he can look under the fridge (i'm tempted to give him a broom or something), biting -- just mama, and....his man parts. He discovered them recently and they are clearly cooler than anything Fisher Price can make.

  5. What's ReRe jamming this week? A LOT! There are some great songs out there. One of my faves is "Sure Thing" by Miguel. It's another one of those that just makes you wanna grab the one you love and cuddle up!

Potluck Friday

Happy Friday!!!

  1. So this is the last Potluck Friday and my last blog post because apparently the world is going to end tomorrow -- and frankly i can think of a lot better things to be doing on my last day than sitting in front of the computer (no offense all of you World of Warcraft nerds, i mean lovers). Seriously though people, the world is not gonna end tomorrow. How do i know? Cus i have a direct line to God and he told me that the wack jobs or are saying tomorrow is the end would be the LAST people to know! So that's how i know we are all good!

  2. Bagel lovers in Norman i have some EXCITING news. Old School Bagel Cafe is opening soon across the street from Norman High (where Blockbuster used to be)! It's about dang time the owners listened to me and opened in Norman, for pete's sake the opened in Stoolwater before they came here. But i digress. The important point is that we are getting one. If you haven't been to Old School, i highly recommend it. When i worked in the city i ate there on the regular. And every time i went to the counter to pick up my order i would say "Thank you, this would be even better if i could eat it in Norman." (this is also what i say when i pick up my food at Big Truck Tacos) . Finally someone listened! My only fear is that they didn't pick a great location. Yeah, Main Street is good in theory, but when you add hundreds of teens out for lunch at the same time every day that's just a mess. Maybe things have changed, but i remember when i was at Norman High and had no car my homies and I would just loiter at Grandy's and Carl's Junior (both of which are closed now) and would maybe buy 1 meal to share amongst 4 people! I got mad when some restaurants would put up signs like "Only 2 students per time" or "Must purchase own meal" etc. But i sooooooo get that now! But oh well, let's hope the kids of today are more respectful...or that they all are on diets so they can fit into their skinny jeans.

  3. Why are people acting so surprised that The Terminator had an affair. Ummm, hello, he's a politician. This is NOT shocking or surprising. Well, maybe it's shocking because no one thought there was another woman on earth besides Maria Shriver who likes pillow talk that consists of spitting and screaming. But other than that I'm not surprised at all. And of course the news came out now. Arnold probably sent a dang press release. His run as governor is over and he probably wants to get back into the movies...what better way than a steamy affair with your maid?! Rumor has it he was planning a tiger's blood-induced crazy rant like Charlie Sheen, but he sees that really hasn't got Sheen so far, so he opted to go with revealing his affair.

  4. Dear Glee, if you don't stop being all serious after school special and start make me start laughing I will stop watching you. Don't believe me? I stopped watching All My Children when they killed Leo and they are now being canceled (9 years later, but still!).

  5. What's Re jamming this week? I'm jamming some Chris Brown's "Look at me now" ft. Lil Wayne and Busta. I LOVE Busta's part. It takes me back just hearing him. Busta is probably a grandpa, but the dude still has it!

Aflac Regulates

Last week two very sad things happened in celeb world.

1. Gilbert Gottfried was fired as the the voice of the Aflac duck after making making insensitive comments on his Twitter page about the Tsunami in Japan. Why is this sad? Umm, because Gilbert Gottfried got fired from a job that most people didn't even know he had! I mean, maybe i've been under a rock, but i had no idea that was Gilbert Gottfried's voice. I also had no idea that Aflac duck said anything other than "AAAFFlac" and i'm pretty sure they could of hired me for cheaper.

The other sad item. And this one truly brought a tear to my eye.

2. Nate Dogg died. If you just asked yourself "Who's Nate Dogg?" please click the red x and exit this blog. We can no longer be friends. BUT before you do that, if "Regulaaatorrrrssss" refreshes your memory, you can continue reading. If not, see step #1. For those of you who don't know who Nate Dogg is and don't follow directions, i'll fill you in -- with one of the best songs EVER. Oh how this takes me back to being 13 and thinking i was so "gangster." Which clearly is not the case since i say "gangstER."

Potluck Friday

Hip Hop Hooray! Ho, Hey, Ho! It's Friday (and name that tune!)

  1. Ok, i think it's time to stop making fun of Charlie Sheen. Yes, it's comical and tickles your funny bone in an inappropriate priest-like way, BUT i seriously think the dude has LOST HIS MIND. And if this is the case, that's just sad, not funny. So no more laughing. Ok, wait...Biwinning, Tiger's blood! Ok, i had to get that out! Ok, NOW no more making fun of Charlie Sheen.

  2. Speaking of Charlie, you know who i truly feel sorry for in all of this? No, not James and me because we love Two and a Half Men and have no idea how we'll spend out Monday nights (it's not like we have a baby or anything!). I feel sorry for Jon Cryer. Because Charlie Sheen has lost his mind -- or is in the midst of publicity stunt gone terribly awry -- Cryer is not out of job. Yeah, they could just replace Charlie's character, but come on, that rarely works. Remember when they replaced the dudes on the Dukes of Hazard? (i actually don't remember that, but James tells me it was an epic fail). So poor Jon Cryer. I bet he's ticked, i mean come on, there can't be high demand for Ducky. As my girl Kerra pointed, out "No one's making Pretty in Pink 2."

  3. A few weeks ago i was working at a middle school in Noble and a little cherubic kid had a shirt with a penguin on it that said "Free Weezy." I told him i liked his shirt, and then went into a spill about how i digs Lil Wayne too (though i had no idea what the penguin was about). He listened quietly. Shook his head like he knew what i was talking about and then politely said, "Ma'am, i don't know who LITTLE Wayne is, but this is Toy Story shirt." All i could do was crack up and then say "I'm proud of you!" I mean, really, what 6th grader should really be listening to Lil Wayne in the first place! Rock on with your Toy Story shirt lil dude!

  4. If Ron and Sam don't get the boot Puck-style soon, i'm gonna have to stop watching Jersey Shore.

  5. What's ReRe jamming to this week? "Pretty Girl Rock" by Keri Hilson. I love this song, and i'm sweeter than a Swisher!

Potluck Friday

Happy Friday

  1. Today begins the official week countdown of James and my 5th year wedding anniversary! Next Friday we will have outlasted 98 percent of Hollywood couples!

  2. You know what i hate more than racists? Racists who think it's appropriate to make racial about one group to another minority. It's like they think it's ok to be racist, as long as you are not the race or ethnic group they are busting on. I took a stroll through Motherhood Maternity the other day -- a mistake i will blog about next week. (I promise this won't turn into a "mommy blog" but there are some things i must share!). The cashier and i were chatting about all kinds of things and got on the subject of vacationing in Mexico. And then she said the tackiest thing -- i've heard this term before, but seriously who says this to a customer:
Nazi Cashier: When you are in Mexico you have to be careful because a lot of those little shops will try to Jew you on the prices.

I thought i heard her wrong. I said "huh?" And then she just repeated it. Really? Really? I just grabbed my sack and left. Seriously? I wonder what she says when the black chick is not in the store. I reminded me of an office manager of small firm i worked at for a short time. She always would talk about "jewing" vendors down on services. Oh, i'd love to see what she had to say when the black girl was no longer there!

  3. James and I have sworn off movies at the Redbox. Yeah, yeah, i've said it before, but i'm serious this time -- i think. We rented Couples Retreat. Words can not express how bad this was. I've seen worse, but i've seen wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better. I didn't know if it was supposed to be a comedy or a drama or a guide of not what to do in marriage. I was confused. No bueno.

  4. 10 years ago i knew it was a mistake to put a certain person in charge of the Norman High School Class of 2000 reunion and now my fears are coming true. Guess who didn't get invited -- Me! Everyone is talking on Facebook about the reunion and i've yet to receive and invite! That's whack -- it ain't a party if ReRe Smith ain't there! I'm kidding. Kind of.

  5. What is ReRe jamming this week? "Say Something" by Timbaland ft. Drake. This song brings out the ghetto fab in me. I'm talking moon roof open, head popping, arm in the air embarrassing Lil Bro to the bone. This song is so good!

Crack will not always love you

So this morning The Today Show had a story about "What's wrong with Whitney Houston?" Apparenlty folks who have attended her come back tour are posting videos of her horrible singing and weird behavior. The former diva no longer sings like an angel when she belts out "I Will Always Love You."

But my question is this: What's wrong with The Today Show?

Seriously, they are doing a pondering why Whitney sounds terrible and acts strange on tour. Umm, did Matt and Meredith forget Whitney's little trip down crack lane? How do we think a "former" crack head who married Bobby Brown --- AFTER he was cool -- is going to sound?!

Movies a la ReRe

Have you seen the previews for the new movie Death at a Funeral? Well, it's actually not a "new" movie, it's the remake of a 2007 British film that's hilarious. I'm usually not a fan of British films. Ok, i'm gonna admit it. I do have some prejudices (shock!) and one of those is British accents. I don't know what it is about them, but they bug me -- with the exception of Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsay, but that's just because i have old man crushes on the.
Anywhoo, Death at a Funeral is really funny and i'm excited to see the remake because it's the black version. Black version? Yeah, you know, that's when a director takes a movie and remakes it with a black cast and black comedy. Not the kind of black comedy that's taboo satire, but the black comedy that, as James describes, includes an "old black lady with a big ol booty saying crazy stuff."
James and i have decided that we are going to start a production company where we take classic movies and make black version of them.
Here are a few of our early ideas:

  • Mary Poppins: It will be called Shanaynay Jones and will star Monique and that one little bad kid from Role Models. Instead of a spoon full of sugar, it will be a spoon full of red drink makes the medicine go down. And the dance routines will all be crunking and Usher will have Dick Van Dyke's role.

  • Gone with the Wind: It will be called Damn It's Windy and will be the tale of a loud bossy lady who owns a salon who is having a turbulent relationship with her baby daddy.

  • Birds: It will be called Chicken Wangs and will about a group of birds that tries to attack a family at a barbecue, only to find they are the ones being hunted.
